When Oompa-Loompas attack!

Gene Wilder and the Oompa Loompas in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Two men dressed as Oompa-Loompas from the film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory are being hunted by police after they allegedly attacked a man on a night out.

The pair - who had painted orange faces and dyed green hair and were wearing hooped tops like the characters in the 1971 musical film - are said to have attacked a 28-year-old man as he left a kebab shop in the Prince of Wales Road nightclub area of Norwich, Norfolk.

Norfolk Police said the man was left with cuts to his face, nose and lip, as well as two black eyes, after being confronted by the fictional factory workers at around 3.20am on Thursday.

The two Oompa-Loompas were with another man and a woman with dark hair who had a dress split at the side.
But a Norfolk Police spokesman said it was believed that only the Oompa-Loompas took part in the attack.

The victim was initially pushed to the pavement by one of the fancy dress characters from the films, adapted from the 1964 Roald Dahl children's book.

As he got up, police said he was then hit on the head, fell to the pavement a second time and was hit again.

Norfolk Police are appealing for witnesses.

A spokesman said: 'Perhaps they were taking part in a Christmas event. They may have been at a fancy dress party.
'It is possible it is captured on CCTV but we are still looking for images.'

It is not the first time that Oompa-Loompas have had a brush with the law.
A man dressed as one of the characters was allegedly involved in a brawl during a fancy dress evening at a Welcome Family holiday park in Dawlish, Devon, in May 2009.

Other characters involved included a Spiderman and even Tinky Winky - the largest of the Teletubbies - best known for his size and red handbag.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has knowledge of it should contact PC Hollie Fisher at Bethel Street police station on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
