Are you feeling down today? That’ll be because it’s ‘Flu Monday’

Expect a double dose of misery today as it is ‘Flu Monday’ – a day scientists say has a higher than usual rate of cold cases.

A rise in socializing after Valentine’s Day and a ‘retox’ of habits such as drinking and smoking after clean living in January, is to blame.

The combination is a ‘shock to our system’ and will see a rise in colds, doctors told a poll by Kleenex.

GP Dr Rob Hicks said: ‘For health – and often financial – reasons we tend to cut back in January: socializing less, and pursuing health drives such as eating healthily, giving our bodies a chance to recuperate after the over indulgence of Christmas.

‘When the month’s over, many start socializing once more.

‘Around Valentine’s Day in particular, with more socializing comes closer contact with others, which is when germs can spread easily through coughing, sneezing, and physical contact.’

More than 2,000 people were questioned in the survey for Kleenex Balsam tissues.
