Tourist captures dramatic ice bridge collapse

The ice bridge, which is part of the Perito Moreno glacier, sent a wave surging through the water after it fell.

Located in part of the Los Glaciares National Park in Argentina, the structure is believed to have weighed several thousand tonnes.

After creaking for a few seconds, part of the bridge began to crumble before the whole arch collapsed into the water, dragging surrounding clumps of glacier with it.

It sent a plume of spray onto the banks of the lake nearby.

Onlookers gasped then burst into applause on witnessing its collapse.

The Perito Moreno glacier is one of the largest in the Patagonia region. Bridges and tunnels of that nature are considered relatively rare by scientists.
